I’m going to let you in on two “secrets” that will help you shed unwanted fat and cellulite and reveal your toned, flat stomach once and for all.
The first secret to getting a flat stomach is eating supportively. I know it doesn’t seem like a secret, but most women get this wrong in spite of their best – but misguided – efforts. Women have fallen for the low-carb, low-fat, South Beach, and hollywood diet fads in hopes of shedding those unwanted pounds.
Eating supportively is not about depriving yourself of food or dieting: it’s about balance and moderation.
When you cut fats and/or carbs out of your nutrition plan, you might temporarily lose a few pounds, but typically, what follows is your metabolism drops and a weight gain of more than you lost occurs, and you go back to your old eating habits.
Eating supportively is having protein and carbohydrates at every meal. You should have 4-6 meals or snacks each day instead of missing meals. What tends to happen when we miss meals is that we end up gorging ourselves.
And remember that breakfast is the most important meal – enjoy the foods you love in moderation instead of excess.
What’s the second secret?
The second secret is resistance training. Late night infomercials have long promoted gadgets that promised to spot reduce those trouble spots that women struggle with and some got sucked in with testimonials from fitness models that undoubtedly picked up a nice paycheck for endorsing their products.
But . . . spot reduction is a myth.
Think about it, have you ever met anyone with a flat stomach and fat arms?
Me either.
If spot reduction was possible then one of these happy customers would have toned and tightened their stomach, yet kept their flabby arms.
Another myth that has mislead women is the belief that cardio is the best solution for fat loss. Take the tredmill manufacturers, they have sold the virutes of burning fat and led us to believe that we could plod along on a treadmill watching tv and before long a flat stomach would be ours. Both of these myths have diverted us from the path of what really does work, resistance training. It’s a flat stomach’s best friend because it burns calories while you’re doing it, and keeps your metabolism working long after you’re done.
One recent study showed that your metabolism can stay elevated over 36 hours after a resistance training session. Another benefit to resistance training is that the lean muscle that you gain will raise your resting metabolic rate and help you burn more fat all day, each and every day.
So get rid of the aerobics and diet books and start eating supportively and do your resistance training. Before long you will have that flat stomach you want and deserve.
