Is swimming a good exercise to add to my week?

Currently I work out 5 times a week. 4 days a week i do 45-60 minutes of cardio on the treadmill, elliptical and stationary bike. One day a week i do one hour of a resistance training class but i HATE it, because the instructor is annoying and so are the people that do the class…could i substitute this class for 45 minutes of swimming? Im hoping to lose 10 pounds by christmas. I eat about 1200 calories a day. would swimming be good?
