home remedies getting belly fat
Is my belly button piercing infected?
I got my belly button pierced 2 weeks ago. I have been mixing warm water and sea salt and been putting in over my piercing for 10 minutes twice a day. And like any normal piercing should do, white puss came out after I did that. But I noticed for the past couple of days that not nearly as much has been coming out. In fat, barely, And it’s a lot more red than last week. And swollen. Is this bad? If it’s infected, what should I do? Are their any home remedies I can use to get rid of the infection? Should I take it out? It is red around both holes, by the way. But the top hole is the more red and swollen one. It has also been crusting, but that’s normal, right? And one more thing: around the top whole, the red skin is sort of shiny. Is this also bad? Lol sorry for asking so much but I just have a side question. If the puss is green, how green is it? Just wondering because I would hate to mistake it for white in the wrong lighting. Thankk you
Make sure the sea salt you’re using is non-ionized and that you’re just using 1/4 tablespoon of it per 8 oz of the warm water– if you’re using more salt than you need to stop using so much because that can dry out the piercing and irritate it pretty badly.
The red stuff is most likely blood, just clean it off when you see it and you should be fine. Again, 1/4 table spoon on non-ionized sea salt + 8 oz. of warm water and everything should be fine– salt soaks draw out bacteria and infections so they’re the best to use when infected.
Do NOT use ointments, bactine, alcohol and/or peroxide on any piercing, infected or not. All these things are bad for the piercing and will prolong healing time/raise your chances of infection, so stick with the salt soaks and a saline solution (optional).
The redness is normal for a while, so don’t be too concerned– if it’s incredibly red all around the piercing, feels hot to touch, thick, foul smelling yellow/green pus is coming out, it’s infected; if you have none of these signs of infection, it’s not infected.
The crusties is normal and is caused by the white pus, lymph. Do not worry about that but be sure to clean it off whenever you see it, also, be aware that the pus can turn transparent with a slight tint of yellow, this is also lymph and nothing to worry about.
I’m not sure what you mean by shiny, but i’m sure it’s fine– do not put vaseline on piercings as well, this is also bad for them.
If the pus is green, you should know, it’s usually a darker shade of green.
EDIT:
I highly recommend you do not use soap because it’s too harsh on the piercing/skin, kills too much bacteria and doesn’t take care of the piercing very well as a salt soak or saline solution spray would.
EDIT:
DO NOT move the jewelry, this brings in unwanted bacteria, hurts/irritates the fistula and prolongs healing time– this is not a good idea whatsoever. Also, do NOT put vaseline on it, again– if it does get dry put a colorless and unscented lotion on it, such as cetaphil and it should be fine. To whoever suggested this, i suggest you get a better piercer that is APP licensed soon.
